The Liar was the latest production by the Centaurus Theatre Company.

The Liar is a comedy about, well, a liar, who comes home to Venice after being away at school for 10 years and begins to tell stories that set the town in a tail-spin.

Lexi James, a sophomore at Centaurus, and one of the cast members in the play said, “Originally we were going to do an Agatha Christie murder-mystery, but our director introduced us to The Liar, which he had once played Ottavio in, and we agreed to go with it.”

James also said, “I’ve been acting since I was 4. I’ve been in around 25 shows, mostly musicals. And I’ve played a man before, actually I haven’t been a girl in a

show since 8th grade.  My strongest motivation, I will be honest, was because of the new director Chuck Novatka. I wasn’t originally going to do the show, because of sports conflicts, but I really wanted to see what the new guy was like. I wasn’t disappointed. It was cool to get someone new with a totally different style. Also I just really love putting on shows.” James played Lelio, the Liar in the play who the story is based upon.

Junior Kristen Huth said, “I enjoy the people in the play more than anything else, we’re like a huge family. This play is really like hanging out with friends and showing everyone else how much fun you are having. I really enjoyed this play. As a comedy we were able to really show the audience how fun it is to be in theater.”

Huth went on to say, “There were so many times at rehearsal that everyone on stage was lost in laughter because the play offered so many opportunities to be just funny!  I am the maid, Columbina who has lots of sass to offer this play and my previous experience is just from being in last year’s play and musical as well as 2 One Acts with CHS.”

Huth was not in the cast that I saw, so I didn’t get to see her perform, but I thought the cast I saw was very good. I thought the play was intriguing during the first half, but I thought it got a little bit predictable during the second half. I also thought Noah Brown was really great as Florindo in the play.

Overall I would give The Liar a 7.5 out 10 stars.
