President Obama picked his nominee for the new Supreme Court justice on Wednesday March 16th, the judges name is Merrick Garland. If elected, he would be the 113th Supreme Court justice to hold the position. Judge Garland is 63 years old and well known in Washington political circles. He has over 15 years of law experience, and was a former prosecutor who served on the Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia Circuit. He would be taking the place of the late Justice Scalia, who died on February 13th of this year. Unfortunately for Judge Garland, the republicans are trying to stall the election process until after Obama is no longer president so a republican could have a chance to choose a Supreme Court justice. The republican party is facing scrutiny for this because it is unconstitutional to not meet with the nominees. Overall, Judge Garland meets all of the qualifications to be a Supreme Court justice member, but I guess we will all just have to wait and see what happens.
